Would you like to become a festival Steward/volunteer for Oxfam?

Would you like to become a festival steward or festival volunteer? well heres how:

Here at Love Music News we  have received quite a  bit of interest regarding how to become a volunteer at various festivals. So we got in touch with Oxfam the biggest charity to be involved with 11 major festivals in the UK  to see what is required before you can be accepted to become a steward.

Oxfam cover Download, Latitude, WOMAD, Camp Bestival, Boom Town Fair, Beautiful Days, WOWfest, Shambala, Reading, Leeds and Bestival  so there is plenty to choose from, and a great way to spend your summer.

So why get involved?

  • Stewarding with Oxfam is a great way to experience a festival!
  • You get to see the other side of festivals, in a supported environment.
  • Stewarding for Oxfam also generates vital funds to help Oxfams work – an all round good situation!
  • Valuable experience for your CV
  • Access to Festival when OFF duty
  • A separate place to camp with toilets and showers
  • Meal Ticket For each Shift
  • The opportunity to be part of a well-established community
  • The opportunity to gain new skills and events experience
  • Training
  • Stewarding guide
  • A supported experience

So if your receiving all this what’s in it for Oxfam?

Oxfam raises £1 million each summer thanks to hard-working, dedicated volunteer stewards – a service that many festivals have come to rely on year on year. The money generated by our stewards’ time goes towards our vital work to help people living in poverty around the world.

So not only do you receive fantastic support and experience you get to help a great charity.

So what’s next?

You first need to check if you meet Oxfams Criteria.

To steward you must be 18 or over and be willing to volunteer for 3 x 8 1/4 hour shifts during the course of the festival. You also need to pay a £195 deposit which is fully refundable upon completion of your shifts. This deposit covers all festivals that you would like to join us at. Check out Oxfams “Before you apply” for further information.

Applications open March 15th Oxfam website www.oxfam.org.uk/stewarding, or call 0300 200 1266 for more information.

Quotes from previous stewards:

  •  Easily one of the most rewarding, enjoyable and enriching weekends of my life…met great people too – Stewards & ticket holders!
  • Friendly & best way to enjoy festivals, fantastic if you’re on a budget or want to learn and little more about how they run.
  • It’s an amazing time at some 1st class festivals, making great friends and gaining skills to use in other areas of my life.
  • Stewarding is, quite simply, the best way to experience a festival. The sense of shared purpose with your fellow stewards added to the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve made a difference through Oxfam makes the experience all the better

Good Luck and enjoy your summer from the other side of a Festival – the best way.
