Wireless Friday Line-Up Review
With one of the most diverse but premium line-ups of any festival this summer, Wireless in association with Barclaycard is renowned for delivering top-notch music to the crowds of London’s Hyde Park. Including some of the best-known and most up-and-coming names in music, the festival is now in its 7th year, with this year’s three day event from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July looking set to smash all records to be the most popular yet.
To give you a taster of exactly what to expect, we run down the line-up for each day of the festival starting with Friday 1st July:
Friday sees super group Black Eyed Peas grace the stage to launch the festival with a bang. Formed way back in 1995 in California, the group has seen their sound merge from hip hop to RnB, pop to electro delivering a host of sing-along party anthems including ‘Boom Boom Pow’, ‘The Time (Dirty Bit)’ and ‘I’ve Gotta Feeling’. Selling an estimated 27 million albums across the world since the release of their third album Elephunk in 2003, with an additional 20 million singles, The Black Eyed Peas will have Hyde Park well and truly thumping as Fergie, Will.I.am and the group perform the latest single ‘Don’t Stop The Party’ from the brand new album, ‘The Beginning’. Getting the crown well and truly excited on Friday 1st July will be the global DJ legend that is David Guetta. One of the biggest dance producers in the world at the moment, Guetta has worked with some of the most famous names in urban music including Kelly Rowland, Kid Cudi, Akon, Fergie and Estelle, along with his club night in Ibiza. Expect big things from Guetta who’ll be keeping the crowd on their tones on Friday.
Joining the party on Friday will be multi-talented Plan B most famous for his soul album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’. which shot straight to Number 1 in 2010. Amongst other talents Plan B is also a celebrated actor appearing in ‘Adulthood’ (2008) and the gritty ‘Harry Brown’ (2009) which featured the hard-hitting ‘End Credits’ in collaboration with drum and bass producers Chase & Status. Expect an action-packed performance from Plan B on the Friday as he performs the classic ‘Stay Too Long’ and ‘She Said’, swiftly moving from grimy rap star to soul warbler with effortless ease and boundless talent.
Tinie Tempah follows on the Friday, who after a rollercoaster year of success – two number one singles, two further top five singles and a number one album – the double MOBO winner and biggest selling artist of 2010 looks set to return to the festival scene with a bang. Performing at his fourth Wireless running Tinie broke through into the mainstream from humble beginnings on the urban music Channel U, his single ‘Pass Out’ the soundtrack to last summer for so many fans. Currently nominated for four BRIT awards, expect an electric atmosphere for London’s very own Mr. Tempah.
Following on is US star Bruno Mars, who after featuring slots on Travis McCoy’s ‘Billionaire’ and B.O.B’s ‘Nothin’ On You’, went on to secure the number one slot in eleven countries for single ‘Grenade’. After being nominated for seven Grammys Bruno Mars will be hitting the stage at Wireless to perform hits from his debut album ‘Do-Wops and Hooligans’ including recent number one ‘The Lazy Song’. Next on the bill is Example who after trademarking his own brand of ‘dysfunctional electro-pop’ on Mike Skinner’s label The Beats, made it into the mainstream with tracks ‘Kickstarts’ and ‘Won’t Go Quietly’. Fulham’s very own rap prodigy, Wireless will be in for a treat as Example hypes up the crowd on the Friday.
Hot on the heels of top three success with ‘Champion’ featuring Chris Brown, is none other than London-born rapper Chipmunk. Set to launch his new album Transition come 18th April, the ‘Oopsy Daisy’ star will be performing his latest single at Wireless featuring Keri Hilson ‘In The Air’ to his devoted fans.
Along with the host of headliners, massive names join the Wireless Friday line-up including Alexis Jordan, whose single ‘Happiness’ was released last year after being discovered by Jay-Z on America’s Got Talent. UK hip hop newcomer Jermaine Scott aka Wretch 32’s way with words will have the crowds wanting more. Already securing her name as a global DJ, Yasmin’s vocals on Devlin’s ‘Runaway’ have propelled her out from behind the decks, microphone in hand, and onto the stage. Performing her debut single ‘On My Own’, this year looks like Yasmin’s year to shine.
