Wireless 2011 Saturday Preview

Wireless Saturday Line-up July 2nd 2011

If the line-up for Hyde Park’s premier musical festival didn’t have you counting down the days until the first weekend of July already, then the latest additions to the bill just might.
Headlining the main stage on Saturday are dynamic duo Chemical Brothers aka Tom Rowlands and Ed Simmons who after a career spanning over 20 years, incorporate trip hop, big beat and progressive house into their critically acclaimed sets. With five UK number one albums and a return to house music with last year’s Ibiza hit ‘Swoon’, we’ll be looking to this duo to provide the soundtrack to summer.
Second on the bill are the drum and bass producers of the moment Chase and Status, whose high-energy shows took the festival scene by storm last year. With 2011 predicted to be no exceptio, we’re just excited to see what they pull out of the bag this time!
Making a very welcome come-back with his fifth and reportedly final album ‘Computers and Blues’ this year, Mike Skinner aka The Streets performance at Wireless is hotly anticipated to be one of the highlights of the day. Skinner’s everyday musings providing the soundtrack to life for many an eager listener, as one of his last performances on Saturday 2nd July, it’s sure to be an emotional affair.
Continuing the decidedly electro bent is Aphex Twin, aka electronic musician and composer Richard David James. Described by The Guardian as “the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music” Aphex Twins’ music is as inventive and strange as it is hard to classify. Expect classics including ‘Come to Daddy’ and ‘Windowlicker’ along with an insight into the latest creations as this top-class but undoubtedly bizarre talent returns to the festival scene.
After a storming success of a year, Katy B has taken the urban music scene by the scruff of its dubstep neck clocking up three top twenty and two top five hits since August 2010. With hits peppering the charts including ‘On a Mission’, ‘Perfect Stranger’ and ‘Broken Record’, also releasing the anthem ‘Lights On’ with Ms Dynamite, Katy B’s set at Wireless is sure to be a sing-along crowd pleaser.
Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo, best known for their album ‘Fancy Footwork’ and their recent release ‘Business Casual’, return to the UK after this year’s sell-out tour. With a host of remixes by bands and DJs including Vampire Weekend, Tiga, Lenny Kravitz and Cut Copy – who are also set to play on the mainstage on Sunday – Chromeo’s hits ‘Tenderoni’, ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’ and ‘I Am Somebody’ will undoubtedly have Hyde Park grooving.
