The Big Chill Preview – Deer Park Stage

One of the most critically acclaimed festivals of the year, The Big Chill combines talent from it’s club nights and record label, for a festival that does exactly what it says on the tin. Drawing together some of the freshest and most celebrated names in music, we run down the acts by each stage to give you a feel of exactly what to expect from the renowned festival.

Friday 5th August:

Making a eagerly anticipated return to UK shores, Australian duo Empire Of The Sun bring their own unique blend of feel-good electro to The Big Chill’s Deer Park Stage. Nominated for the BBC Sound of Music poll 2009, the hugely underrated double act otherwise known as Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele, channel a distinctly glam-rock style into their act. Delivering a dramatic and futuristic stage presence to their shows, expect to hear classics ‘We Are The People’ and ‘Walking On A Dream’ as Empire Of The Sun provide the perfect soundtrack to summer.

Also gracing the Deer Park Stage on the Friday are The Chemical Brothers, who incorporating trip hop, big beat and progressive house into their critically acclaimed sets, will have the audience in the palm of their well-travelled DJ hands.

Bringing through soulful vibes with her distinctive sound is BRIT Award winning Neneh Cherry. Most famous for her nineties ‘Buffalo Stance’ track, singer and occasional DJ Neneh blends hip-hop with global influences, ensuring a performance not to be missed.

Saturday 6th August:

Headlining the Deer Park Stage is global stellar-star and musical genius Kanye West. Best known for his tracks ‘Goldigger’ and ‘Jesus Walks’, the multi platinum hip-hop artists, music producer and rapper has solf over 15 million albums worldwide, bringing his boundary-pushing sounds to stages all over the world. Playing exclusively at just one festival this year, The Big Chill is the only place to catch the star in 2011.

Returning to music after success in 2009 with their critically acclaimed albums Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe) and Nights Out, Metronomy’s quirky indie-electro music is instantly recognisable. Releasing their new album The English Rivieria this April, the Devon based band look set to storm the Deer Park Stage at The Big Chill with tracks including ‘A Thing For Me’, ‘Radio Ladio’ and ‘Heartbreaker’.

With their own brand of attitude filled, high-energy music, Crystal Fighters will draw the The Big Chill crowd into their fantasy-filled world with tracks ‘I Love London’ and ‘Xtatic Truth’. Expect an unforgettable stage show as the group welland truly stamp their mark on The Big Chill’s Saturday line-up.

Closing the Deer Park Stage on Saturday are duo 2Many DJs, a side project of the Soulwax empire. Best known for their mash-up style mixing together obscure samples from some of the hottest tracks in music with pioneering visuals, the party vibes are sure to ensue come Saturday night.

Sunday 7th August:

Setting the world on fire so far in 2011 as an all-girl quartet hailing from Los Angeles, the art-rock sounds of Warpaint are coming the Deer Park Stage on Sunday 7th August. With ethereal tracks ‘Elephants’ and ‘Undertow’, expect big things from the taste-makers as they make their debut at The Big Chill 2011.

Rodrigo y Gabriela met whilst playing in thrash metal bands, a world away from their current sound as folk and Latino inspired music. Played on acoustic guitars the duo have topped America’s Billboard World Musisc Charts for 10 weeks playing for Barack Obama at the White House. As another festival exlcusive for The Big Chill, Rodrigo y Gabriela once again confirms the diversity of the global music line-up the festival is famous for.

Blending folk, blues and rock, legend Robert Plant takes the name from his first band The Band of Joy to deliver music of the finest pedigree to the Deer Park Stage on Sunday. Expect classics alongside more modern covers appealing to a wide audience of fans.
