Spotify to offer a free radio service for Mobile Phones in USA

Spotify the music streaming service is to offer a free radio service for mobile phones and devices in the US. They are following the lead of competitors Pandora, Slacker and Songza, who already offer similar services.

Spotify used to charge 10 dollars a month to use their mobile app service. The Free service will be paid for by audio adverts. Users can get rid of the adverts by becoming a paid subscriber.

The new service will be just on Iphones and iPads to start with but it is likely to be rolled out on Google Android phones too.

The Spotify Radio service will allow users to play music linked to artists / albums they have on their playlists within Spotify.
The spotify radio service was first offered on desktop devices last December and user demand led to the this new service being rolled out for mobile phones.

Charlie Hellman, Spotify’s vice president of product said about the new service

“We found those that use radio are really some of the most highly engaged users of Spotify,” “They stay longer and are more likely to upgrade.”

Spotify have 3 million subscriber world wide and 10 million people have used there service in the last 30 days. The service is available in 15 services. Spotify is a Swedish Company.

Users who want to choose what songs they play on the mobile will need to continue to pay $10 a month.
