Sissy and The Blisters Tour Review
Many of us would agree that although good fun to occasionally have a dance and drink to, the mainstream pop song beats we hear being churned out of the radio each day are becoming a little repetitive.
As their debut single, ‘Things May Change’ suggests, one group of boys are already brewing up a new, inventive, musical storm – one that is set to reinvent playlists across the nation.
Taking on a five week UK tour, London bred, garage boys, Sissy and the Blisters have caused awe inspiring and overwhelming musical chaos in over ten cities. Obviously influenced by the 1970’s punk era and the garage movement of the late part of last century, their music is hectic, booming and uncontrollable whilst at the same time catchy, sung with confidence and ultimately thrilling.
The band’s recent Aldershot gig had the crowd mesmerized and captivated. The boys belted out the chorus to their newest single, ‘We Are The Others’, with pride and a definite air of coolness. The lyrics embrace the bands notion of not quite fitting in and standing out from the crowd – as singer James carelessly jumps and crash lands on to the stage from a stack of teetering amps we are assured that this is certainly the case.
Despite their striking black, skinny jean, winkle picker and leather clad image, Sissy and The Blisters aren’t try-hard or pretentious but simply an effortlessly cool group who, with a little aesthetic and musical inspiration from their post-punk predecessors, obviously delight in making and sharing great music.
As excitement levels in the sweaty and dark Surrey venue rapidly rose and the stomping of the dedicated fans became relentless, drummer Ed’s beats grew heavier and the singing louder. At this point it was obvious that everyone in the crowd wanted to be one of The Blisters.
Although the band hungrily race through their seven-song set, the music never looses its edge and the tantalising guitar riffs by Nick and Jack can’t be faulted. Sissy and the Blisters are, quite rightly, enjoying their music so much that they don’t see sense in pausing.
With a superb collection of catchy crowd pleasers and enough charisma to flood a room I don’t see these boys stopping any time soon either.
