Relentless Freeze Festival to chill London

Last week Love Music News donned our imaginary beanie hat and snowpants and headed down to the Relentless Freeze Festival 2011 launch party in East London. With a pretty relaxed vibe considering the copious amounts of caffeine-filled energy drink given away by the sponsors Relentless, extreme snowsport’s finest turned up and tuned in for Freeze Festival 2011.
After the London premiere screening of Bottom Line at the launch party – the snowboarding movie produced by Pirate Movie Productions showcasing ‘…the best of Euro shred’ – it’s given a taste of what to expect at this year’s Relentless Freeze, and we’re excited!
On the 28th and 29th October this year, the ultimate urban snowscape will be transported to London’s Battersea Power Station as the Relentless Freeze Festival 2011 hits down with a very loud bang. As the UK’s only ski, snow and music festival, Freeze Festival draws in the crowds for its specially made 32 metre high jump and unrivalled winter music line-up.
100 metres long and crafted with over 500 tonnes of snow, the Big Air Jump is where the snow’s finest athletes will be competing to be crowned champion. Big Air will host the International Ski Big Air Competition and World Cup Snowboarding Championships and where better than with London’s iconic Battersea Power Station as a backdrop?
But Freeze Festival is not just about the snow. Banishing those winter blues, what better way to embrace the cold than with London’s biggest après ski party? (If the launch party is anything to go by, we’re not going to dispute that billing!) Hosting a top line-up that will see The Streets play their final UK gig, it’s only fitting that Mike Skinner will go out with a bang at Freeze 2011.
Lowering the temperature even further to bring a serious dose of cool to the slopes is Toronto based four-piece Azari & III. Supported by Annie Mac and Boys Noize, the group have recently collaborated with Friendly Fires, with their debut self-titled album released this year and latest track ‘Manic’ about to hit down, expect big things as they perform on the Friday.
On the other end of the scale, salvaging some sun-kissed vibes for the end of October, London based duo Summer Camp’s distinct sounds make them definitely one not to miss. With tunes including ‘Ghost Train’ and ‘Was It Worth It’, the duo’s trademark sound is blissed out beachy nostalgia, set to warm up the Saturday slopes at Freeze.
Also on the bill are London-based electronic duo Groove Armada, Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, indie band Everything Everything and BRIT school exports Rizzle Kicks as Relentless Freeze Festival 2011 looks set to be better than ever.
