Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ Video removed from You Tube.
The official video for Rebecca Black’s internet hit Friday has been removed from YouTube.
Teenager Rebecca Black sprung to fame when Ark Music Factory, released Rebecca’s Black ‘Friday’ song on You Tube and iTunes back in February 2011. Within a month she had received 1000 hits, then when the song went viral in March 2011 it acquired millions of views on YouTube within a matter of days. Unfortunately Rebecca received a lot of negative media coverage from social networking site twitter, and received more than 3,190,000 dislike, compared to 451,000 likes.
So it was no surprised when a message was placed on the video now reads: “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Rebecca Black. Sorry about that.”
A spokesman for the 13-year-old says her team asked YouTube to take the video down because of a dispute with the song’s producers Ark Music Factory. Whether that was do do with the firm starting charging $2.99 (£1.85) to watch the clip has not yet been confirmed.
However Rebecca Black did tweet
“Thanks for all the messages regarding the $2.99 fee added to Friday video, I have NOTHING to do with this!! “PS…My Manager and Lawyer are on this and are going to get to the bottom of this! Stay tuned…”
Rebecca’s lawyers and Ark Music have been in dispute over who owns the rights to the internet phenomenon, which had garnered more than 160 million views, for months. A letter was sent to Ark Music from Rebecca’s lawyers back in March, accusing them of copyright infringement and unlawful exploitation of her publicity rights, due to the fact that the Black’s retained ownership of the master after paying $4000.00 (£2,474) for Ark to produce and video Friday.
