Radar Alternative Presents The Kayas at the Buttermarket Shrewsbury
Radar Alternative presents…. The Kayas Plus special guests The Taste and Lucy Spraggan at: The Buttermarket Shrewsbury 20th July 2012
So, this could well be the biggest night of live music to hit Shropshire in a long time. Three incredible acts, under one roof, all for £7! I mean, seriously, what more do you need from a gig?
For those that dont know, The Buttermarket is oh-so conveniently located a stone’s throw away from Shrewsbury train station. Shrewsbury itself is located about an hour from Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool , and less than three hours from London! Absolute perfect location for a booming bank holiday party! Following a not too shabby £1 million refurb, The Buttermarket re-opened its doors in April and has seen some incredible acts appear every month.
Radar Alternative has been bringing regular live music nights since the opening weekend and they really have excelled themselves with the latest offering. July 20th sees Midlands band The Kayas play alongside local lads The Taste and Buxton-born Lucy Spraggan.
Recently signed to SBS records (think Manic Street Preachers) The Kayas have gained support and recognition throughout the UK. They have captured the attention of the biggies- NME, Kerrang, Music Week and A&R Worldwide. They have had airplay on Radio1, 6music, and featured on an advert on MTV.
A five piece Indie-Rock band consisting of; singer songwriter Ad Edwards, guitarist Duane Williams, bassist Scott Pugh, drummer Will Stokes and on keyboard- Ad’s brother Ash Edwards. The Kayas got signed by SBS after Ad performed an acoustic set for Joe Calzaghe and his father at their gym in Abercam. SBS, who are friendly with the Calzaghe’s saw the set and asked for a CD of the band. The Kayas were signed a few weeks later.
Their new single “Power to the People” is released Monday 16th July, available through iTunes.
Local band The Taste, signed to Kittiwake records in London have had fantastic 2012 so far, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up! Playing 3 festivals over jubilee weekend, various gigs across the county and a single release on June 25th these lads really are determined to make it a year to remember.
Playing alongside The Kayas and Lucy Spraggan at The Buttermarket in July really is going to be a huge gig for Danny, Richie, Jamie and Russ. Gigging in Shrewsbury means they get to be as close as they can possibly be to their biggest fans, and to top it off they get to play alongside some serious talent!
With influences from Kasabian, The Music and The Sunshine Underground as well as their enemies this band put everything they have into each and every song. Each song is honest, well written and above all bloody well performed, and by the 3rd or 4th song there is little or no room left on the dance floor!
The Taste release their first single “Passion Parade” on 25th June via iTunes and HMV.
The incredible Lucy Spraggan is the third and final act on the bill for this epic gig. Aged just 20, she has already toured across America, played alongside chart topping bands and has fans across the globe. With her unique style of Acoustic Folk and Pop (A-Flop) this singer songwriter never fails to make people stand up and listen. Her mix of humor, talent and honesty bring something so incredibly fresh to today’s music scene- making the right people stand up and take notice.
Lucy is the perfect addition to the bill alongside The Kayas and The Taste, making 20th July most definitely a night for everyone.
Lucy Spraggan’s album “Top Room at The Zoo” is out now, available via iTunes and Amazon.
So, there you have it- three incredibly talented, diverse acts, all under one roof, all for £7! It really doesn’t get much better than this people. If you like live music (whatever the style) you need to get yourselves to The Buttermarket on July 20th. Believe me, you will not be disappointed. Tickets will sell fast, so get yours soon!
See you there!
