Queens Of The Stone Age Roundhouse 17th May 2011 Review
Queens Of The Stone Age: London: The Roundhouse: 17/05/2011
So 13 years have passed in what seems like a blink of an eye since the original S/T release… a new line up emerged and a whole host of follow up albums and side-projects (TCV/ Sweethead)… But the almighty Josh Homme has remained at their helm… Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Queens Of The Stone Age.
Incase you’d forgotten, this is a re-issue tour… a glorious chance to see the entire debut album from start to finish, which of course, is a dream come true, especially, if like me, you missed it first time around.
Opening with Regular John, instantaneously sends the crowd into untamable frenzy while Homme swaggers about in his usual fashion. Thundering through If Only and Mexicola, there is no doubt that this brand of stoner-rock is still alive and well… the main set ends with You Can’t Quit Me Baby…. And boy don’t we know it. Like heroin for new and old fans alike, the atmosphere is proudly ecstatic and certainly mirrored by the furious bout of circle pits.
Homme is as foul-mouthed as ever, chain-smoking, and downing liquor like water – still a charming leader who you can’t help but adore – and he bloody knows it.
Can’t blame him though – it was his birthday, after all…and what a birthday it was!
The encore set saw him open the floor to a couple of requests… Make It Wit You followed by Monsters in a Parasol which beat Leg of Lamb in an audience vote, paving the way in to a delicious medley of greatest hits and ending triumphantly with Go With The Flow.
