Osfest 2011 Saturday Night Review Example Goldie Lookin Chain
The first act on the main stage on Saturday night was “Goldie Lookin’ Chain” (http://www.youknowsit.co.uk/) – who were making their second appearance at OsFest, having gone down so well in 2010. This year was no different- they easily had the biggest crowd of the festival so far, and despite breaking the stage in the first five minutes they were brilliant. The classic songs were there- “Guns don’t kill people, rappers do” and the like. As well as some new songs and, of course, the brilliant dance moves. I am not exaggerating when I say that GLC easily had the best reaction from the crowd throughout the whole festival. People were going mad for the cheeky Welsh chaps- so much so that one bloke actually “Zorbed” across the crowd. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen! The band seemed to enjoy it too. I think it’s safe to say after the reaction they got for the second year in a row- GLC will become a staple part of OsFest for years to come!
British rapper turned dance artist “Example” (http://www.trythisforexample.com/) closed the main stage on Saturday night after a brilliant hour long set which included the massive “kickstarts” and “watch the sun come up”. He also performed his new song “Changed the way you kiss me”. His natural progression from rap to rave has resulted in a brilliant new sound from him and I am sure his new album will not disappoint. Having spoken to a number of people in and around the festival throughout the weekend “Example” was the main act people wanted to see- and they were not disappointed. Fantastic Saturday night headliner.
After Example had finished at around 11.30, we thought we would go and check out the dance arena- after a mental and loud set from Example the last thing we wanted to do was go back to the tent. However, when we got there, we found out the dance arena closes at 11.30. In fact, all of the music finishes at 11.30. Which I have to say I think is a bit of a mistake by OsFest. A dance tent/arena open to the early hours is the best way for people to burn themselves out after a whole day of music (and booze) and 11.30 is (in my opinion) far too early for the music to just stop. So, after Example getting everyone all fired up, we were all ushered out of the main stage arena and back to our tents by security. Now, this is where it all went downhill…. The security, on the whole had been pretty tight- checking peoples bags on the way in, asking 40yr olds for id etc. However, on Saturday night they sent 4,000+ people back to their tents through a missing panel of the metal fencing- nowhere near the usual entrance/exit of the campsite, but in fact, in the middle of my friends and another tent. In the pitch black, over guy-ropes! Let me tell you, it was a nightmare! There was two security officers aimlessly asking to see peoples wristbands (and managing to get the attention of approximately 1/10). The end result was that one of my friend and a guy from the other affected tent had to get their torches out to guide people over the guy ropes- total disaster! The ridiculous decision to change something that worked so well the night before resulted in countless day ticket holders able to come into the campsite and stay the night.
