Number-one selling artist Tinchy Strider, eight man collective Roll Deep and grime artist Tempa T will represent the best in urban music as they headline the main stage.
Rising through the ranks of the UK underground scene to break through the commercial world of music, East London based Roll Deep Crew return to perform at Live Fest. The crew that brought you Dizzee Rascal and Wiley will no doubt bring more energy to the stage than you can shake trainer clad leg to, as they perform their number one “Green Light” and singalong “When I’m ‘Ere”.
A big name on the pirate radio scene and performing back in 2002 with Roll Deep, Tinchy Strider’s trademark was his high-pitched voice. Seven years later after being signed by Roc Nation, Tinchy worked with N-Dubz on the hit “Number One” cementing him at the top of the UK urban music scene. Further tracks “Take Me Back” with Taoi Cruz and “Never Leave You” with Ammelle from the Sugarbabes, Tinchy’s success has been seen both in and out of the charts after launching his Star In The Hood clothing line. His performance at Live Fest will no doubt be one of the many highlights of the day for 2011.
Eagerly anticipated on stage at Live Fest is Tempa T, otherwise known as Tempz; a grime MC part of Slew Dem Crew. Featuring on JME’s album Blam! And “Hypest Hype” with Chase & Status, Tempa T’s hype-up stage presence is utterly infectious. Transforming from a track to a singalong anthem, Tempz’s “Next Hype” remains as one of the greatest grime tracks released to date.
Also amongst the headliners performing at Proud2 is the genre-spanning Radio One DJ and MTV VJ that is Zane Lowe. Winning Best Radio Show at the NME Awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Zane Lowe is used to superstardom and warming up crowds for a variety of internationally renowned acts. Eminem and D12, Foo Fighters, Muse and the Prodigy to name a few, the New Zealand born DJ continues to weave hip hop, rock, punk and drum and bass into his must-hear sets.
Bringing a rockier edge to the lineup at Live Fest 2011 Funeral For a Friend, The Hoosiers, The Guillemots and Kids In Glass Houses and will all perform sets at the O2 on 23rd July.
After releasing five albums and a total of sixteen singles, Welsh rock band Funeral For A Friend are no strangers to rocking out on very important stages. Taking Live Fest 2011 in their stride the band will perform a rare and exclusive live DJ set including tracks from their latest album Welcome Home Armageddon and their extensive back catalogue.
Big names in alternative rock, four-piece band Kids In Glass Houses were named one of the ‘Hottest Bands On The Planet’ by Kerrang. After appearances at the 2010 Reading and Leeds festivals on the Radio 1/NME stage, KIGH certainly know how to get the crowd on their toes. Despite supporting 30 Seconds To Mars, Lostprophets and fellow Live Fest 2011 artists Funeral For A Friend, Kids In Glass Houses have been working hard on their third album due for release at the end of summer this year. Expect to hear a blend of new material and old favourites from KIGH on stage at Proud2.
Live Fest is not just about household name artists and bands, it’s about discovering the finest unsigned talent the country has to offer. Performing on the Indigo2 stage, the Live and Unsigned finalists will battle it out in front of a panel of industry judges.
Ryan from Funeral For A Friend’s top tip for the Live and Unsigned bands? “All you need is good songs, passion, creativity and an open minded approach to making music. A basic mastery of one’s instrument is also a bonus!”
