Isle of Wight Festival

Isle of Wight Festival 2011 Preview

With only three days left until thousands of people descend upon the legendary Strawberry Fields of the Infamous Isle of Wight festival… why I ask festival-goers why not look preview what’s in store for lucky ticket holders…

Prior to the music the action kicks off on the Thursday, when plucky camping ticket holders have the opportunity to find and then swiftly lose their bearings! With weather forecasts looking rather fortuitous, not only should people be packing their sun-lotion but now thanks to the introduction of the new “Boxfresh life’s a beach” their buckets and spades. That’s right IOW is provided YOU with your OWN BEACH! After relaxing in the sands… why not scour the vintage markets scattered around the festival site, find some sheikh bargains, smash out some dodgems and then try ride the numerous carnival rides provided! That’s the day sorted, now promptly onto the evening:

The Hipshaker Lounge could easily steal Ronseal’s tag, as believe you me, there have been one or two rascal moves pulled out to the retro sounds provided by world-class dj’s across all four days. These moves are largely influenced by visitations to ‘The Carling Local’, ‘Strongbows Festival Pub-Guild’ and the ‘Last Chance Saloon’… all that will be regular and well known hotspots after your first night partying!!!

Now to what everyone’s looking forward to, what I would call the best festival line-up this summer, arguably the best in years!!!!
By the time sundown comes around on Friday, four words will be on everybody’s lips. “The Kings of Leon” Yes everyone’s favourite Tennessee rockers KOL are fresh from their new album and ready to show IOW party goers how to fire up their sex!!!! With no pigeons around to distract Caleb and co, this promises to be an electrifying set from one of the biggest bands in the World.

Appetising your taste-buds before the main attraction is the come band of Leeds favourite exports “The Kaiser Chiefs”…. I’m not sure if I predict a riot, but I’m definitely well awaiting their return and cannot wait to see them! Manchester four piece ‘The Courteeners’ also return to IOW higher up on the bill after they rocked out in the day last year!

Swiftly after winning his NME Godlike Genius award Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters return to IOW to headline the Saturday Night… If you haven’t got their latest album, ‘Wasting Light’ I strongly recommend you get on the download… time after time the Foo’s deliver and this is no exception. The crowd can await these tracks being belted out in Foo fashion alongside their Greatest hits, anthems such as ‘Everlong’ and ‘Best of You’…
Warming up for the Foo’s are a group of bands who if they weren’t at IOW could easily be 3 headline acts themselves. Jarvis Cocker and Co, have decided to stop being selfish and have come out of retirement and will be gracing us with their attendance. The Stooges’ have found a slot where Iggy isn’t busy with car insurance, and Seasick Steve Steve. These three veterans are all tried and proven rockers of the highest calibre and I cannot wait to see all three.
To see the Festival out on the Sunday is Britain’s Biggest Band of the moment Kasabian. Tom Meighan and co have been sampling new material, and if its anything like their previous three albums worth our ears are in for a treat. Warming up for them is Beady Eye, let’s see if Liam can emulate any of the success of Oasis and provide us with a set to remember.

Don’t forget though, IOW is not restricted to one stage. The famous BIG TOP STAGE will play host to equally talented bands and artists providing IOW lovers both choice and predicament. Headlining the annual Friday Ladies Night (sexist) are the legendary ‘Joan and the Jetts’… Then on the Friday we have Famous Welsh Lothario (No Not Ryan Giggs)… Tom Jones, if it wasn’t for the Foo’s I’m being doing my best Carlton impression all night. Then closing on the Sunday are the ‘Maniac Street Preachers’. Preachers or Kasabian, not a decision I should have to make but unfortunately I will have too…..
Other highlights across your weekend will include… 2011 most talked about new bands ‘The Vaccines’ & ‘Brother’. Plan B, The Script, Jeff Beck, Two Door Cinema Club, Hurts and Band of Horses.

Wow in writing this I literally cannot wait, my dancing shoes are at the ready along with my wellingtons… My ears are awake a feast and my liver a kick in!!!! More importantly I’m awaiting the best four days of my year!!!!!!!
See you soon IOW my good Friend!!!!!!!!
