Hop Farm Festival 2012 Preview
Preview to Hop Farm 2012
If I’d have said to you Sir Bruce Forsyth would be sharing a Saturday night with Bob Dylan and Damien Rice then your response would have probably been “Get him to the priory, he’s on crystal meth” but no I have not been slamming anything into my veins to create such an image, the occasion is Hop Farm Festival in Kent and “Brucey” is indeed on the same bill as the Dylanator and erm The Riceicle?
The festival is in its 5th year and came to existence when a survey was undertook amongst festival goers and the reaction was that they ended up feeling at the bottom of the pecking order when it came to the events. So out of the depression of the public rose the ashes of Hop Farm Festival all about the punters and the music and for such a festival in the early stages of its life it has boasted and hosted some pretty impressive acts so far the likes of Neil Young, Paul Weller, Blondie, Bryan Ferry, Iggy & The Stooges, Eagles, Morrissey and Prince have all graced this festival which seems to grow in prestige every year.
This year’s line-up puts vastly larger festivals to shame (mainly ones around the West Yorkshire and the Berkshire areas) descending onto Kent is Peter Gabriel, Ray Davies, Billy Ocean, Suede, Richard Ashcroft, Kool and the Gang, The Psychedelic Furs, Primal Scream, The Futureheads, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and the legendary Joy Division and New Order bass player Peter Hook amongst many others.
There really is a diverse collection of genres to keep many a people happy but not only is there music available but in between that and drinking cheap Aldi brand cider you may want to go see what comedy they have on offer with big names such as Russell Kane and Stephen K Amos on the bill and also of course no festival would be complete without a fun fair! In fact there has been an occasion in the past where I wished I was high up on a Ferris wheel at a concert, it was during a Simply Red number and suicide seemed a fair bargain from the torture. Also don’t miss the “Ultimate Indie Disco” taking place, I have got on good authority that it is far better than the Proximate Indie Disco of last year.
Tickets are still on sale at Gigantic
