Hop Farm Festival 2011 Preview
If you’re like me and have spent the last five days going through contrasting feelings of excitement & jealously or all round enthusiasm/depression then (a) you’re also in love with Sandra from down the road or (b) you’ve been watching GLASTONBURY on television as well!
Yeah, obviously mine was (b) too come on, everyone knows Sandra smells!!!! Wow Glastonbury looked amazing!!!! I wasn’t too keen on the headliners, only for some reason I did find myself liking Beyonce! But what a festival, and how many great bands played that weekend! From Queens of the Stone Age to Kool and the Gang…
Well if you missed out, don’t let it happen again!!!! Festival season is well and truly upon us!
Sure it may only be in its fourth year! But this year THE HOP FARM FESTIVAL is bigger than ever! And promising to be one of the highlights of the summer! And it can other something Glasto couldn’t; SIX LETTERS:
T – A – F – K – A – P
If you think that is some sort if Greek desert, shame on you! Yes of Course I am talking about PRINCE! Vince Power the man behind the ‘back to basics’ festival situated in Paddock Wood, Kent… Outdid Mr Festival ‘Michael Eavis’ and secured The Artist Formely Known As Prince for a headline slot!
If a spot of Purple Rain isn’t enough to wet your appetite, lets preview the rest of the line-up:
The festival kicks of this coming Friday 1st July… Heading down to the Garden of England for your entertainment pleasure include; Starsailor front-man, ‘James Walsh’, Birmingham’s long serving Britpop legends ‘Ocean Colour Scene’. Getting later in the day! Taking a break from reforming with that small band, yeah you know ‘The Killers’ Front-man Brandon Flowers pops down to belt out some classics from his debut album ‘Flamingo’.
Promptly after, we have another Frontman of a small-band – ROXY MUSIC! Yes the Hop farm have brought to you the icon that is Bryan Ferry (CBE)! As if that wasn’t enough to see out the first night, is THE EAGLES!!!! Having sold over 120million albums Worldwide, having a host of number one singles and albums…. Save to say your ears are in some safe hands! The American Rockers!
Rolling on to the Friday… the huge acts keep on coming! Fourth from top on the bill at the Main Stage is God Mother of Punk ‘Patti-Smith’ she will play an acoustic set! We then have Mr Car Insurance & The Stooges or as they prefer to be known Iggy & The Stooges! After seeing these guys at IOW recently, I can only say WOW you are in for a performance! Iggy is just a born entertainer, albeit a bit of a nutter! Velvet Underground front-man Lou Reed follows! Guitarist, song-writer, Vocalist this guy is a cult hero to many and a great musician!
Seeing out the night is another icon, another cult-hero and another former front-man of a huge-band! Its like Vince is that guy who picks people up on the rebound or something gosh, there’s a massive trend building! Saying that I’m not complaining! As it’s none other than Morrissey! The former Smiths legend is fresh from his acclaimed set at Glasto (much better than U2) Hashtag should have headlined!
For the first time in its history the Hop Farm introduces a third day! Which will see a more modern look to the lineup with chart-topping artists such as Aloe Blacc, Eliza Doolittle and Tine Tempah on the bill!
Following in the footsteps of Neil Young and Bob Dylan, closing the festival is the legend, that is PRINCE… can you really miss him headlining his first UK Festival…. Come on really, you’ve got to be there!!!
Lets also not forget the Hop Farm Festival has four stages; The Main Stage, Big Tent, Bread & Roses Stage and The Comedy Tent. So if the above is not to your cup of tea then there is loads more in store!
In terms of the smaller bands I have three massive ones to look out for, which I’m sure will all deliver huge sets! ‘Brother’, ‘Frankie & The Heartstrings’ and ‘Fenech Soler’ Watch this space!
