Gary Stewart announces the release of his EP “Year and a Day”

Scottish singer/songwriter Gary Stewart is due to release his latest EP Year and a Day on June 18th, and it definiately worth a listen.

This Scottish born Folk singer has been  influenced by the singer/songwriters of the ’60s including James Taylor, Carole King, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and  most importantly, Paul Simon. Having been compared to many Gary Stewart looks like he is set for greater things. His ‘Year and a Day’ EP takes you right back to likes of Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’ and early Joan Baez whilst remaining contemporary alongside modern folk breakthroughs such as Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons.  Gary combines all the traditional aspects of folk with his own unique freshness and tenderness. Capturing audiences with his energetic live shows, filled with songs and stories of love, paranoia and prostitution, he always delivers them with honesty, passion and a good measure of Celtic Flair.

Now based in Leeds, the Perthshire boy caught the attention and imagination of traditional and modern music lovers up and down the U.K with the release of his Debut Album, “Boy Cries Wolf” (featuring performances from Ellen Smith (Ellen and the Escapades) and Rosie Doonan (Radio 2 Folk Award nominee/Rosie Doonan + Ben Murray/Peter Gabriel). The album picked up support from R2 and Maverick as well as radio 2’s Steve Lemacq.

Gary has carved out a strong fan-base in his adopted home of Leeds and around the U.K. after performing on the Festival circuit at Glastonbury, Kendal Calling, Live At Leeds, Greenbelt, Larmer Tree and the Wimborne, Warwick, Holmfirth, Bromyard, Fylde and Otley Folk Festivals to name a few. Along the way he has supported the likes of Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale, Fionn Regan, James Yorkston, Emma Pollock, James, Drever, Mcusker & Woomble, Nick Harper, Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson and Dougie Maclean

“Definitely onto a winner” – Joe Skrebels  from  This is Fake DIY

“Contently contained hymn of the earth and the air, an EP born of organic processes, and resonating with all the subtle power that might entail.” Laurence Green from Totally Vivid

“That’s pop with pizzazz, invention and no little magic, at times bringing to mind the Caledonian earthiness of Alasdair Roberts and the catchy and sparkling populism of Mumford and Sons…” Oz Hardwick – R2 Magazine

‘Year and a day’ is a beautifully written EP which honours Gary Stewart’s craft as one of the most distinct singer/songwriters in the UK, and bound to set him up in the pecking order alongside some of the familiar names he has supported along the way.
