Firefly Festival 2011 Preview

The Firefly Festival 2011 takes place between 12th to 14th  August 2011.

How did the great festivals start? I’m not entirely sure, but, if I’m honest, I would like to think they all started like this;

“Conceived one summers evening amid the burning embers of a bonfire, we had the idea of expanding an annual gathering of friends into an intimate but punchy little music festival…”

Firefly is a sophisticated weekend of wonderment, frivolity and campfire intimacy set amid enchanting woods and a natural amphitheatre behind Elton Hall near Ludlow. Now in its 3rd year Firefly festival, in the Herefordshire countryside, is bigger than ever, but still manages to maintain its original intimacy.

The lineup is handpicked to allow new acts to play alongside more established artists. This allows an accessible festival experience to be enjoyed by all. This year’s lineup is not yet complete; however, I think you will be massively impressed with what is already on offer: The Anomalies, Morning Parade, Marcus Foster, Kyla la Grange, and Scott Matthews, will be performing alongside Will and the People, Picture Book, The Wild Mercury Sound, Stinger and many more talented and diverse acts guaranteed to get you moving ‘til the wee hours

Firefly is the most perfect mix of crazy cool beats with chilled acoustic sessions. Nobody is left out at this festival. Don’t fancy listening to the band or going crazy in The Dance Hole? – No problem- why not head over to the campfire and pick up one of the readily available guitars and have a jam!

That is the beauty of Firefly: The expected and unexpected fit together perfectly, and all set in a forest clearing, surrounded by miles of beautiful rolling hills. There is no pretension, but, there are no expectations either: Just wonderful people enjoying the incredible music and wonderful atmosphere.

This year will see “The Fire Escape” open its doors for the first time- a traditional English pub, right in the center of the festival! With Local Ales and Cocktails available, and food prepared by the fantastic Andrew Boast, who has over 20 years experience. One of the beautiful thing s about Firefly is that it prides itself on using locally sourced produce wherever possible, therefore managing to keep prices low and quality high!

In order to maintain its intimacy Firefly can only accommodate a select number of people, so ticket sales are limited. Ticket prices start at £50 – if you have not got yours yet head to http://www.fireflyfestival.co.uk/tickets/ , but, be quick- once word gets out about this quirky little festival, they won’t be available for long!

I have struggled with this piece to describe just how wonderful this festival is, however all that is left for me to say is: imagine a “big” festival, and then imagine it stripped back to its routes….. To where it all began. And there you will find Firefly.
