Damn Vandals, ‘The Beautiful Mind’ EP launch at Underbelly, Hoxton Square, London

Live Review – Damn Vandals, ‘The Beautiful Mind’ EP launch at Underbelly, Hoxton Square, London

“We make a lot of noise” says Jack Kansas with a smile. Kansas, front man of London band Damn Vandals, talks to me before they launch their new EP ‘The Beautiful Mind’. And having seen the show, I agree – they do indeed make a lot of noise, but it was definitely the good kind.
Their sound is difficult to pin down, mixing traditional rock and 80’s styles to sounds could be from an early Franz Ferdinand album. It’s an interesting mix which doesn’t come across on their recorded material.

Damn Vandals are definitely a band to see live to fully appreciate. Their second song, ‘You Can’t Go Dancing When You’re Gone’, is a prime example. The single, released in 2011, was an enjoyable piece of rock from a band with potential. On stage though, the song transforms into a stomper with far more impact.

Sometimes you need to see someone live to understand what they’re about, and Damn Vandals are one such group. The engaging Jack Kansas presents with charismatic asides and behind him there’s no weak link to speak of either.
This is well written guitar rock I can highly recommend seeking out. Once you’ve seen them play live, you’ll appreciate Damn Vandals all the more – they do make a lot of noise after all.
