D-Edge 2.0 Club in Sao Paulo Review
So D-Edge, the acclaimed Brazilian club located in grey concrete jungle Sao Paulo, is now called D-Edge 2.0. Having grown up going to D-Edge most weekends, since it opened in 2003, I was actually taken aback by the renovations news. Was that really necessary? It was a huge success already. Why change it? After a long wait and several postponed open dates, I found why that was important.
The new D-Edge consists of 3 new spaces. There is roof terrace with views of the surrounding buildings and Oscar Niemeyer’s Latin American Memorial – an absolute feast to the eyes if you are an architecture fan. It has got plenty of sofas and chairs, red lights and a mixture of mirrors and metallic walls. Since smoking has been banned in clubs and restaurants in pretty much the whole of Brazil, it was a favourite amongst most people there.
There is also the lounge; a small narrow space sided by comfortable sofas in asymmetrical shapes and a bar, where the music is less loud and you are able to relax and enjoy the LED lights and the club atmosphere. It is also in there that you can find a little secret room – where you can see people outside but they cannot see you.
The new dance floor is again decorated with LED colourful stripe lights that fill out the room completely and make you feel as if in a rainbow tunnel. Needless to say, the music is good and loud and the sound quality is astonishing, the exact qualities that made D-Edge one of the best clubs in the world.
The “old” D-Edge is still there if you are the nostalgic type – there is a separate entrance to it and a lot of people seemed to prefer doing that, claiming now D-Edge is bigger, it has lost its intimate feel. It seems a waste not to enjoy and make the most of the new spaces though, specially the roof terrace, whenever balmy nights are on offer.
