Cloud Control – Bliss Release Album Review

Album Preview: Cloud Control – Bliss Release
If you haven’t heard of Cloud Control by now, I’d be inclined to believe you’ve been living under a rock.
Signed to Infectious Music and with their debut album, Bliss Release out next week, this Australian band seems to be almost unstoppable. Supporting Tame Impala in the UK and Foo Fighters on some Australian dates, they’re not short of rock and roll admirers
They come to us following a rather popular EP release back in 2007 and an “Australian Music Prize” win, which is basically the equivalent of the UK’s Mercury Award, and probably just as well thought of, if C.C. are anything to go by.
Using the funds to relocate to London and fresh off the back of a huge amount of touring, they’re finally attempting to take over the UK. They may still be small, but remaining approachable all round nice guys, with an ever-growing army of devoted followers makes them ones to watch this year.
Their haunting hippy infusion of boy-girl vocals and sing-a-long Aussie pop tracks make them somewhat incomparable to others, yes there are influential elements from Arcade Fire, and The Flaming Lips, for example. But there’s something about their smooth running track list that makes this feel really special and frankly, it’s delight to listen to. Stand out tracks include Meditation Song #2 (Why Oh Why), There’s nothing in the water that we can’t fight and Gold Canary.
You can catch them on Saturday at the Bushstock Festival in London this weekend. Other UK dates include Intro Festival in Middlesborough and three dates at The Social in London on the 14th, 21st and 28th of June.
