Arctic Monkeys announce 2011 UK Winter Tour

It’s been quite a week for Arctic Monkeys. Following two massively successful hometown shows last weekend, and yet another number one album under their belts, they’re fast becoming one of the biggest rock bands in Britain. And what better way to mark this success than to step up to some of the biggest venues our country has to offer?
The Sheffield four piece will be taking “Suck It And See”, their fourth album, on its first official UK outing in October and November this year. Starting in Nottingham on the 28th October and finishing up in Liverpool on the 9th November, the tour bus will be rolling up to venues as large and established as the 02 arena in London and Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena. This move to enormo-domes normally only reserved for Rock Royalty has marked a significant growth of audience for the band, which some fans are dubious about: will their new reincarnation of melodic low-fi Americana tinged rock fill such huge halls? Only time (and ticket sales) will tell…
All doubts aside, the 9 date tour follows a string of prestigious summer festival dates worldwide, including T in The Park, Benecassim and even a rumoured secret slot at Glastonbury at the end of this month. Fans can expect to hear several tracks from the new LP (‘Brick By Brick’, ‘Library Pictures’ and ‘That’s Where You’re Wrong’ already proving to be early favourites), as well as some of the older classics that were dusted off recently for the bands Sheffield shows: ‘Mardy Bum’ and ‘A Certain Romance’.
For anybody who’d rather catch the Monkeys in a more intimate venue, there is another opportunity in the form of the bands appearance at The Camden Roundhouse as part of the jam packed iTunes Festival, on the 6th July. However, tickets for this event cannot be bought, but only won by random allocation.
With this high element of chance looming over the roundhouse, it seems any sensible fan would do well to get up early on the 17th June, when tour tickets go on sale at 9am.
