Amy Winehouse Inquest to be reheard in January
The inquest into the death of soul singer Amy Winehouse is set to be reheard in January, after the coroner involved in the case stepped down from the case.
Dr Andrew Reid, the coroner for Inner North London, resigned after an inquiry into his decision to appoint his wife Suzanne Greenaway as his deputy coroner in 2009. Greenaway, who oversaw the original inquest, resigned in November when it emerged she was not fully qualified.
Dr Reid stepped down from judicial office on 7 December 2012, before the disciplinary process by the Office for Judicial Complaints was formally concluded.
The new hearing is set to take place on the 8th of January next year at the St Pancras Coroner’s Court.
Amy Winehouse was found dead at her flat on 23rd of July last year. The Back to Black singer had been battling a long term drug and alcohol problem. By summer 2011, she had fallen into a pattern of abstaining for a few weeks, and then relapsing. One such relapse led to her death by alcohol intoxication.
With her death, she became the latest artist to join the infamous “27 Club”. A group of artists who had all died at the age of 27, which includes the likes of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain.
