Prince at Hop Farm 2011
Prince Review of Hop Farm 2011 Show
Prince, love him or hate him you cannot deny that he is an icon. Yesterday he entertained 120,000 people at Hop Farm- his only UK live performance this year, and he did not disappoint.
Arriving fashionable late, and apparently taking a limo the 80yards from his dressing room to the stage, in true Prince style he warmed the crowd up with “Let’s go Crazy” telling the crowd “we are real musicians, this is real music”. Often classed as aloof, Prince was chatty and in high spirits, this being his first UK festival appearance since 2007.
Flying in the country ion Saturday (private jet of course) he spent Saturday night at London’s Claridge’s Hotel, he travelled into the Kent countryside with his (rumoured) fifty strong entourage on Sunday. The festival itself is only in its 4th year, but with the man behind Reading Festival behind it, it is going places. Fast. The fact that they managed to get Prince, as well as The Eagles, Morrissey and Brandon Flowers shows just how diverse it is.
His set list included “You’ve got the look”, “Take me with you”, “Raspberry Beret”, and “Nothing compares to you”. Followed by “Purple rain”, undeniably his biggest hit, which unsurprisingly bought the house down.
A fan of an encore, he did not disappoint, coming back out to the enormous crowd and satisfied their hunger for more. “Kiss Kiss”, “Controversy” and “Play that funky music white boy” were the final songs of his epic two hour set.
Love him or hate him, you cannot help but admire him.
