Y Not

Y Not Festival 2011 Preview

Why the hilly hell not go to Y-Not? Well, I can’t answer that BUT I can tell you why to get your pretty selves there!

Firstly, it is located in bea-oootiful Derbyshire on August 5th-7th 2011 and the last bands have just been finally announced making the line-up packed full of the juiciest bands you ever did see. I attended Y-Not last year (2010) as a green police volunteer and had THE best festival ever! It is small, lovely, clean, fresh, loud, crazy and is blooming well the biggest, smallest, bestest festival you ever did see! Need I say more!?

Tough if you say no cos I’m gonna… I have to give you some info on what you may miss if you don’t get ‘on it like a car bonnet’ and get your ticket! Y-Not gave good viewing in 2010, introducing us to some new bands like Little Comets and Darwin Deez and played us some not so old lovelies like The Subways, Futureheads, Mystery Jets and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly. This is the sole reason why I bought my ticket for this year before any acts were announced, as I just knew I would not be disappointed…

The latest Y-Not Facebook status updated revealed the final acts (June 6th) ‘The last slots. NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB / ART BRUT / THE DUKE SPIRIT / SONIC BOOM SIX / POLARSETS. And that is a full house :)’ http://www.facebook.com/ynotfestival
Which lets face it, this is enough to keep you happy but let’s just take a look at the HUMONGALICIOUS line-up already released to further tantalise your peepers and eventually your ears.

The one and only Beardyman is back at Y-Not after already creating a dub stepping storm there in 2009. Jamie Woon has been doing the rounds this year along with Miles Kane, Brother and Wolf Gang, and they are all stopping off to visit you at Y-Not! Some more cracking newbies are on the line-up too, with Dananananaykroyd who are already out and about touring and causing a scene on the.. err.. scene. Egyptian Hip Hop are hop popping to visit, one of these guys even wrote on their census form that they were an ‘Egyptian Hip Hopper’… I think I love them!
We also got I am in Love, whose single ‘I Want You’ has already received airplay by Radio 1, then there’s Futures, Pete & The Pirates, Tellison, Tribes, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and more more more. The headliners for Friday are The Go! Team and I can’t wait for their T.O.R.N.A.D.O to tear us up. Saturday’s headliner is only flippin FEEDER, and if this doesn’t Feed-Ya right into the palm of Y-Not’s metaphorical hands then you are crazy I tell you, CRAZY!
For the final evening on Sunday there be headliners Maximo Park, who are back on their festival circuit since what feels like forever! I truly cannot flaming wait to hear ‘Books from Boxes’ and will be screaming to it so listen out for it peeps!
There are so many acts that I cannot possibly list them all, and they even have The (new) Allotment stage with new and undiscovered acts for you to test out and enjoy! Max Raptor are headlining The Allotment on Friday and have a lot of Derbyshire love following them, they even supported he Darkness on their warm-up tour in early June!

Tickets are still on sale at only a mere £65 for a full weekend ticket, yes that is right… £65… this is with camping too!

If last years Y-Not was anything to go by then you are in for a treat and with a line-up like THIS it’s like Christmas in August! Oooo and an added bonus to this place is the portaloos, as they get emptied LOADS over the weekend. So, no Poo Girl accidents here (google this for giggles) or swamp divers waving as you pee… BONUS!

Y-Not even got shortlisted for ‘Best Small Festival 2010’ and I am pretty shocked they didn’t get it, though I am certain they will be in the running for it again this year! So watch out other small festivals cos Y-Not is hot on your trails!

So, again… get your tickets soon before they run out and you are left scrambling the webbernet for some!

I highly recommend volunteering after my experience last year as the hours are great, you get two meals a day, you make a great big shed load of other lovely volunteer friends and all this is for a few hours of your time per day! These guys really are great at looking after their volunteers too! I didn’t miss any of the bands I wanted to see all weekend either! Wonderful!

So, Y-Not??

Exactly…
Y (the hilly hell) not?!

See you there peeps 😀
