T in the Park 2012 – Yet again T’s campsite will tear open the gates on the Thursday for the extraordinary anticipation fuelled campsite party, so pack your bags, make sure you have your walking boots, sunglasses, waterproofs and festival spirit crammed into your rucksack as we get ready to set a match and ignite this weekend of exuberance, laughter and above all else………..music.
Whether you arrive on the Thursday or the Friday you will have no choice but to feel and immerse yourself in the buzz that surrounds the venue. There is only one point I would change about T in the Park and it’s the walk in to the campsite, so make sure you have a few refreshments to hand for the stroll in and leave in plenty of time so you can enjoy a five minute pit stop and the banter that is in constant exchange.
The gates on the immediate horizon bring to most the excitement experienced as seven year old on the prelude to Santa’s arrival. Once you’re through the queue, through that bottle neck of ticket verification and bag vetting you arrive and it is at that moment you will define your weekend, its time to pick your pitch. This could be one of the most important decisions of the weekend and I like many have that spot planned and always head to that particular patch of grass year on year. I will however keep that location undisclosed to the masses.
As the campsite party gets under way we all have one eye on the Friday, one eye on the big party.
Soon the thousands of voices become hundreds and the hundreds become dozens as daylight begins to creep over the campsite tents, the food stalls and of course the main stage. Friday has arrived and this is Christmas Day for music lovers. Remember it’s always “Fancy Dress Friday” but please don’t come as “Where’s Wally”, as you will be one of 5,000 others who thought it was an originally comic idea conceived on the back of a beer mat on a Saturday night in late June.
As the Arena opens its gates the first thing I do is buy my weekend gig guide. I take a minute to decide where to begin my venture and with a bit of luck get the confirmation that I will get to see the majority of the bands that have consumed my i-pod for the last six months.
As you take the stroll in to the arena, glance to your right and you will be greeted with the awesome sight of the “NME Stage” and with this years line up appearing on eight stages, spread across this sprawling venue you will need to make sure you have your weekend well planed. Get to know this place and enjoy every minute, this is your home for the next 72 hours.
As with all good things………..Monday arrives and it’s way too soon! With the rapture of the previous three nights still ringing in your ears you pack your bags and wish you can do it all again, and you will, next year. So, until then behave, work hard and save those pounds for your 2012 Ticket and I will see you there.
Tommy’s Top Tip: Please make sure you always keep your ticket handy as you will need this along with your wrist band all weekend at the request of the event security.
