Pet Shop Boys announce their first Ballet
80s electro pop legends have amazingly announced their first ballet. The Dance project is loosely realted to Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Most Incredible Thing. They have worked with Venezuelan dancer Javier De Frutos who choreographed the ballet.
The Ballet is based on a fairytale about a ruler who offers his daughter and half his kingdom in a contest.
The ballet has had mixed reviews, The Guardian said it “stretches the concept of ballet into new terrain”, however the Independent were more scathing saying it was “a step too far”. The indepedent continue “It’s an ambitious, sometimes clever project, fatally undermined by waffling choreography, The duo have fun building up layers of sound, but the score doesn’t have the irresistible sheen of their best pop.”
Neil Tennant of the Pet Ship Boys has described the ballet as “drama, energy, power and glamour” The Pet Shops Boys Ballet is to take place at Sadler’s Wells in London and ran till Saturday 26 March.
