Osfest 2011 Review Sunday Daytime

Osfest 2011 Review Part 3 and onto Sunday 29th May 2011.

After a ridiculously windy Saturday night, Sunday could not have come quick enough! Some friends of ours were coming for the day, and we were all really looking forward to Sundays acts. Opening up the main stage was “Blindsyde” (http://www.blindsyde.co.uk/) – an original 5 piece Indie band from the North West. Stating The Beatles, Happy Mondays and the Stone Roses as their influences, they were the perfect act to wake up OsFest after a heavy Saturday night. The sun was shining and slowly but surely the masses started emerging from their slumber!
Unfortunately, their set was only 20mins long, so, a lot of people missed out- but, like I said; fantastic Sunday opener.

Next up was a fantastic female vocalist called “Libby” who performed a range of hits from “Summer of 69” to “Rolling in the deep” she worked the crowd, and got them moving with her bluesy-rock voice and well thought out song choices.

Next up on the 2nd stage was “Lucy Spraggan” (http://www.lucyspraggan.com/), who was, for me the highlight of the festival. Her music style is what she calls “flop”- the melodic middle ground where pop and folk meet- the toe-tapping interpretations of classic sounds and the harmony-heavy ballads that she pulls from modern rhythm and blues, turning the rattle of rap into sing-along folk-style numbers that are hard to forget.

Her first song was a combination of Beyonce’s Halo, Wycliffe Jean- Perfect Gentleman, Gym Class Hero’s- Take a look at my girlfriend, Nelly- Ride wit me and about 5 other songs I couldn’t write down quick enough!- All sung beautifully by her whilst playing acoustic guitar. She quickly gained the attention of the crowd and before long I looked around and I couldn’t see where the crowd ended! She then played one of her own songs- “Facebook”, a quirky, catchy number that had the audience singing along by the second verse. After singing a combination of unexpected covers mixed in with her own songs the crowd was gutted when she said that was it- but thankfully she agreed to play one more song and she played “Facebook” again, to which the crowd knew the chorus word for word! Everyone I spoke to had alot of love for Lucy, who is currently unsigned, and I am tipping her to be big in the not so distant future!

After Lucy we all moved over to the main stage to see “The Boomtown Rats” (http://www.boomtownrats.co.uk/) – who I had been really looking forward to. In actual fact I was very disappointed- we were led to believe that it was the original line up performing, however, in actual fact there were only two original members, speaking to other people afterwards the general consensus was that they didn’t seem very interested in being there, or getting the crowd going. Which is, as we all know an integral part of playing to a festival audience.

Following The Boomtown Rats was local band “The Good Swimmers” (http://www.myspace.com/thegoodswimmers) – led by frontman Andy O’Brien, another OsFest favourite. Second year for Andy this year, and once again he bought the crowds in, in their masses. The bands fantastic covers of popular Indie/Rock hits went down really well with the crowd, who were moving and dancing throughout their set.

There were a good few bands on throughout the course of Sunday afternoon including Paris Riot Remedy (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Paris-Riot-Remedy), The Kayas (http://www.thekayasmusic.com/) and Camera (http://www.cameramusic.co.uk/), who all played around half an each of a combination of covers and their own stuff.

“Fake That” (http://www.fakethat.com/) came onto the main stage late Sunday afternoon, and to my surprise the crowd loved them! In all honesty, I thought they were a poor cover band, whose voices weren’t strong enough for such a massive arena. They are recognised as the “best Take That cover band in the UK”, so they clearly have merit. However, it wasn’t for me and my group of friends, so we made our way back to the tents.

Following “Fake That” was recently signed Shropshire Band “The Taste” (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Taste) – a group of 5 lads, who play a combination of Indie, Dance and Rock. They class Kassabian and Sunshine Underground as their influences and will be headlining Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival in September alongside none other than The Charlatans and Fenech Soler! Big things will be happening for “The Taste” in the near future, with a single and album release this year, so keep a lookout!

“Missing Andy” (http://www.missingandy.com/) were next on the main stage. A five piece group of lads from Essex riding on the crest of a wave. Having already had two top 30 hits, these boys are most definitely on the way up. It’s easy to see why “Missing Andy” are gaining so much attention, with their stunning combination of driving rhythms and potent rifts.
