Review of Sea of Bees
I arrived at a local music venue to watch a singer I had never heard of before and walked out in love with everything about her.
Julie Ann Baenziger is truly mesmerizing. From the moment she walks on stage to the moment she walks off she had me hooked.
Performing songs from her folk inspired second album entitled ‘Songs For The Ravens’ and also a few from her previously entitled EP The Bee Eee Pee, I am at times reeled in to feeling the emotion she so easily expresses. The beautiful and delicate vocals she delivers alongside her guitar seem genuine and extremely intimate, which she doesn’t seem to hide during her endearing chats in between her songs, openly admitting her personal feelings and radiating such a sweetness and happiness, it’s a joy to listen.
The 26 year old songwriter from Sacramento, California is truly lyrical from the heart, almost as if she has taken everything she feels and has ever felt and turned each moment into a melody. From the upbeat record Sidepain to the beautifully haunting Wizbot, Julie hits every note pitch perfect.
On leaving the gig I overhear numerous conversations of people commenting on how much they adored the evening, and how taken they were by her performance. Albums were being sold and signed by Julie herself, pictures being taken and smiles on everyone’s faces. I am hugely looking forward to hearing where her vivid imagination will take us next!
