Radio 1’s Big Weekend Line Up Announced

Radio 1’s Big Weekend Line Up Announced. The announcement of Radio 1’s Big Weekend was declared throughout the day on the BBC station on the 30th March 2011, boasting a stellar line up that rivals many of the bigger british festivals.
Priding itself on its freely allocated tickets and changing site location, this year’s big weekend will be taking place in Cumbria, and will be headlined by stadium rockers Foo Fighters (Saturday) and pops biggest face, Lady Gaga (Sunday).
20,000 pairs of tickets are available for the two day event, taking place on the 14th and 15th of May with the usual fair allocation policy applying. It was announced that those living in Carlisle, Cumbria, the Scots borders and the North East of England would receive priority.
Fans will get to choose from four stages that take in over 50 acts, including the likes of The Strokes, My Chemical Romance, Friendly Fires, Plan B, Tinie Tempah, Two Door Cinema Club and Magnetic Man, amongst others. A variety of Radio 1 DJ’s will also be making appearances across the weekend.
Following this announcement, Festival Republic in particular has had to defend their own respective summer line up at Reading, which boasts a similar array of bands for a rather more extortionate price. However, the downside of the Big Weekend is that the free allocation of tickets mean that only two can be secured if you happen to be a lucky winner, not to mention the exam time date hindering thousands of GCSE and A Level students. It seems that however fantastic the line up, you just can’t compete with the August bank holiday weekend…but if you like your festivals a little more mainstream, fashionable and with the possibility of bumping into Fearne Cotton, Carlisle might well be the place to be.
