James Arthur wins X Factor 2012 Final Review

Well that’s a wrap!

This weekend saw singer and guitarist James Arthur triumph at The X Factor 2012 .

James Arthur, Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney battled it out in front of an audience of 10’000 in Manchester, in a bid to claim the title and prestigious recording contract.

Saturday night saw incredible performance’s from the contestants, with a highlight being James Arthur’s slick rendition of ‘Feeling Good’.

Despite technical complications, which forced Nicole Scherzinger and her ‘Lamb Shank’ (formally ‘Lamb Chop’) to share a microphone, Jahmene and his mentor sung a truly beautiful version of the late Whitney Houston’s ‘The Greatest Love of All’.

James Arthur who shared his mentor with Jahmene, took to the stage with Nicole to give a unique arrangement of Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’.

With only two positions for the final on Sunday evening, someone had to go. That someone was Christopher, who was originally mentor Gary Barlow’s wild card contestant. He left the competition following the pair’s duet of ‘Rule the World’.

The lines were reopened and viewers at home had just 24 hours to vote for their winner which was to be announced in Sunday night’s show.

With two songs standing between them and the result, the boys sung their favourite track of the series, Jahmene’s stunning cover of ‘Angels’ left Nicole in tears, while James wooed the audience with his performance of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’.

It seemed as if the competition was too close to call as the pair took to the stage to sing what would be their winner’s single. Former supermarket employee, Jahmene Douglas delivered a spine tingling cover of The Beatles’ ‘Let it Be’. Both of Nicole’s boys were worthy of the crown, but James Arthur became the 9th winner of The X Factor with his faultless performance of the winner’s single, ‘Impossible’ (originally a hit for Shontelle in 2010).

Christopher Maloney did not perform along with the other contestants in the opening number on Sunday evening, and it has not been yet confirmed whether he will be joining The X Factor tour.

In addition to the heated final, both nights featured performances from some of the world’s biggest artists including Kylie Minogue, Kelly Clarkson, Rita Ora, One Direction, Emeli Sande and Rihanna.

Physical copies of the single will be available in stores on Wednesday, but for now you can buy James Arthur’s debut single, ‘Impossible’ here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/winners-single/id567501281
