Conor Maynard O2 Academy Bristol 2012

Its cold, wet and dark  outside Bristol O2 academy waiting for the doors to open, so we can join the hundred of fans waiting to see Conor Maynard. As we stand we hear waves of screams coming from the queue, it appears every time Conor’s bus moves they think its him, some girls even seek up to the window of the bus and place there camera to the window take a photo and run, these girls sure are mayniacs.

The O2 is a great venue, everyone gets a view no matter where you stand, however the last time i was here i we were let down by the production crew and had to wait 50 mins between sets, so  I was not looking forward to standing with this crowd if they were kept waiting, but to my surprise DJ George step on stage and play some very current tracks mixing with ease, his smooth transactions meant the crowd were constantly pleased, his energy to keep everyone entertained could be felt in the atmosphere as the energy began to charge.

PW

North London Rapper PW was the first support act , and boy did this 19 year old know how to work the stage as well as the crowd, his love for rap was clean and pure, its great to see a young person showing there love for music through their words. PW is definitely one to watch in the future, we loved his vibe, his attitude and his music.

PW can be followed on twitter @PW_artist check him out.

Starboy Nathan

I was intrigued to see Nathan, a few people had suggested if every i got a chance i should go and review him, because his R&B style would be right up my street, and i have to admit he was more than i expected. Starboy is an independent artist from South London, who has worked hard to get where he is today, and i am pleased he stuck to his passion. Some may know him for “come into my room” or “Diamonds”. Again he is another artist who knows how to work a crowd and keep them entertained, he speaks easily to his audience and you get a sense that the stage is where he is best. Starboy is very slick and a pleasure to watch, but even if you aren’t able to see him live, download his singles because they are easy on the ear and make you want to step into his room.

Conor Maynard

I have to admit I was not looking forward to this performance, when your stood with a crowd of screaming girls you have to wonder if the artist will be able to step up to the mark and perform to their best ability while his/her audience is doing everything in their power to distract him/her, and trust me this crowd tried a lot of stuff, they put up huge banners, so other fans got annoyed that Conor couldn’t see them which would erupt into a cat fight, they threw objects on to the stage and they fainted by the plenty.

So after watching this 19 year old from Brighton step on stage, i got the feeling we were in for a good show (if the crowd behaved), what I didn’t expect was the conviction he put into every song, not only did you watch him show every emotion in his songs but he made you feel them, very rare for such a young artist. Not only did Conor Maynard engage his crowd but he made every single person in that room feel special, which might explain why so many fainted, what was so great was Conor didn’t react he kept on going making the other thousands of people feel like he was singing to them only and only them.

Half way through Conor’s performance i had to take my eyes of the stage because two harmless drunk men had started causing a bit of a stir, so I moved to speak to them, while I was doing this I didn’t realise that Conor had changed the tempo and had started playing acoustic, until a note hit me, and a realise Conor Maynard was singing “starship” with ease that made you stand and listen to his every word, he swiftly moved on to sing “Diamonds” while his guitarists strummed a long, a few people near me complained but to me this boy showed true talent, to perform acoustic, in from of a audience packed with a lot of distractions and not loose key, and appear as confident as he did when he first stepped on stages, really showed this guy can and will go far.

His ability to change his style of music definitely keeps you on your toes, not only did Conor sing “Vegas Girl” , at the start and leaving the best till last “Cant say No” and “Turn around”, he mixed his show up with acoustic covers of “Starship” & “Diamonds” and bought on stage “Anth” for what I can only say what an amazing and sleek rap performance of “Headphones”.

This Boy is the whole package, he is extremely talented and loved by many, we wish him every luck for the future, and look forward to seeing him at his next performance.
