Hugh Masekela and Paul Simon reunite at Hard Rock Calling 2012

Hugh Masekela is to be reunited with Paul Simon at Hard Rock Calling. Original ‘Graceland’ trumpeter to join Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, with special appearance from legendary Jimmy Cliff on Sunday 15 July 2012.

 Hard Rock International have today confirmed that Hugh Masekela will join Paul Simon on stage at London’s Hard Rock Calling on Sunday 15 July to perform the ground breaking ‘Graceland’ , a UK first since 1987.

 Twenty-five years ago Hugh Masekela put forth an idea to Paul Simon to tour the ‘Graceland’ album with an array of South African musicians, including Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and 10-man vocal team Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Now for the first time in 25 years, Paul Simon will be joined by original ‘Graceland’ musicians to bring the show back to the UK at Hard Rock Calling in London’s Hyde Park.

The ground breaking world-pop masterpiece ‘Graceland’ generated three hit singles, a five-year tour, Grammy Awards for best album and best record and sales of over 14 million copies.

Hard Rock Calling is set in the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park in the heart of bustling London and has fully established itself as one of the UK’s must see outdoor music events. The stage at Hard Rock Calling attracts some of the biggest musicians and bands in the world, with previous headliners including The Who, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Stevie Wonder, Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, The Police, the Killers, Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi.
