2011 Kerrang Awards Nominations Announced
Nominations shortlist announced for the 2011 Kerrang Awards fuelled by Relentless Energy Drink. After almost a month of frenzied clicking and voting from thousands of rock fans from around the country and indeed, the world, the shortlists of nominations for this year’s Kerrang Awards have been announced.
Leading the pack in this year’s prizegiving, which mark the 30th anniversary of Kerrang are the world renowned My Chemical Romance, arguably one of the most successful and opinion polarizing rock acts of modern musical history. The New Jersey five piece sparked much hysteria back in 2006 when they were blamed by the media for popularising “Emo” culture, but it appears they’re more successful than ever, nominated for Best Album, Best International Band, Best Video (presented by Kerrang! TV), Best Single (presented by Kerrang! Radio) and Best Live Act (presented by Download).
When informed of their popularity, the bands frontman Gerard Way was nothing short of overwhelmed . “The UK has always been one of our favourite places to play as band, and we are so grateful for these nominations and the continued support from Kerrang!, it’s readers and our fans. Thank you for the recognition and we hope to see you this summer.” He said, in reference to the bands headline slot at this year’s Reading & Leeds festival, as well as an appearance at T in the Park.
It appears Kerrang readers are fans of all things stateside, as fellow American rockers Avenged Sevenfold and 30 Seconds To Mars have earnt three and four nominations respectively. Maryland pop-punkers and headliners of the 2010 Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink Tour All Time Low are nominated for Best Live Act and Best International Band.
Also expected to pick up gongs are You Me At Six, Bullet For My Valentine, The Pretty Reckless and Asking Alexandria.
“The competition is really hotting up!” says Kerrang!’s Deputy Editor Daniel J. Lane. “It’s been an amazing year for our music and it’s really exciting to see such a diverse range of bands nominated for this year’s K! Awards. I personally love the fact that our very own home-grown heroes Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon and The Blackout are going head-to-head with U.S. heavyweights like My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars and Avenged Sevenfold. But, as ever, it’s up to the Kerrang! readers to decide who gets to walk away with one of our coveted K! trophies on the night. So get voting!”
It was announced last month that the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, will be honoured as Kerrang! Legend at the Awards, to mark 30 years of Kerrang! Magazine. His exclusive ‘Kerrang! 30th Birthday’ show at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on 21 June is on sale now, tickets from www.aloud.com
