John Peel to have Festival named in his honour

The legendary late Radio 1 DJ John Peel was a pioneer of new music in fact without him many could argue that artists such as Joy Division, The Smiths and David Bowie may never have impacted so heavily on the countless lives that they did and continue to do so to this day. With his iconic Peel Sessions which spanned from 1967-2004 John Peel led a revolution which spanned four decades promoting music over a variety of genres that other DJ’s and radio stations wouldn’t dare touch, it’s not often that someone’s death can have such an adverse affect on people’s lives but when he died on the 25th of October 2004 grief could be found across generations of families grandparents, parents and children all in mourning for someone who would have probably given them the first play of their favourite artists.
Even from beyond the grave Peel is set to give new acts the chance to have their talents heard with a festival named in his honour across the city of Norwich set up by Norwich Sound and Vision (NSV).
Norwich Arts Centre director Stuart Hobday has said of the event:

“I think we all felt straight away John Peel encapsulates what we want to do at Norwich Sound and Vision. It’s not about the headliners but emerging bands and individuals.”

It will sure be a great event and a fabulous tribute to the man and the legend.
The festival is planned across 10 venues in Norwich from October the 11th to 13th 2012
